Avenue 5 Goes From A 8 Week Space Cruise To A 3 Year Comedy Sketch

Avenue 5 is a very unique comedic sitcom that takes place on a futuristic space cruise. The cruise was set to last only 8 weeks but due to a series of unfortunate events, about 5000 passenger's vacations were extended to about 3 1/2 years. This leads to an all star cast of comedic actors and actresses ranging from, past cast members of the hit show 'The Office', as well as Josh Gad and Hugh Lauri, to react to this situation and try to save everyone from the ship itself, and more so themselves.

When I first watched the trailer for Avenue 5, I was excited for the the unique premise it was presenting. Having these over the top characters be trapped on a space cruise for 3+ years definitely led to some funny moments. I wanna be clear that the show has just finished its first season and they are no where near getting back to earth any time soon. The best thing I can relate this show to is 'The Office'. They have these wacky, definitely not mentally right people being thrown into unexpected, wild situations and show how they would deal with it. It really is very amusing.

I have two problems with the show however, the visual affects were not the greatest. I sort of expected this due to the fact that this is a low budget comedy series with 9 half hour episodes, but it definitely isn't game breaking. I also have another harp with the concept of time, early on in the series you get to see this countdown clock to when they are projected to get home but throughout the rest of the season you only hear rough updates. I would've liked to see them play around with that struggle with the days ticking down so slowly.

Overall, I really enjoyed this series. It was very easy to watch due to the comedic tone, and the fact that there are only 9 half hour episodes as of right now. The cast was fantastic and hilarious and the premise of the show was very captivating. My only real harp was the visual effects but I think they could get better if HBO offers more money if the show is successful. Avenue 5 is available on HBO and has been renewed for season 2, which should arrive early next year.
